Thatiana Cardoso

Thatiana Cardoso’s works explore themes of home and sexuality, using common domestic objects such as pink household items whose formats suggest sex toys and parts of the human body such as tongue and genitals. One of the ways she does this is by making representations of the body, focusing, in particular, on sexual body parts. The work emphasises aspects of the desire, sensuality and eroticisation of these objects. In her work, these objects become living bodies with their own desires. The artist explores ideas of domesticity and potential inner erotic desires by using the colour pink, a cliché in the feminine universe, in a context where female sexuality is often repressed. The result is an evocation of a body that is both seductive and disturbing.

Thatiana Cardoso (born 1984, Brazil) lives and works in São Bernardo, São Paulo. She graduated in Fine Arts from Centro Universitário Belas Artes de São Paulo in 2016 and in the last years has been participating in exhibitions in alternative spaces and formal institutions. The artist works with a variety of media that goes from photography to video performances and installations. Thatiana Cardoso has been using household items as substitutes for sex toys and human body such as tongue and genitalia, both male and female.
